SS Series - Smoke Spill Axial Fans

SS Series - Smoke Spill Axial Fans

Description

The High Capacity (HC) and Smoke-Spill (SS) Series of axial roof units are fitted with adjustable pitch impellers enabling a wide performance range to be obtained from any one unit.
They are designed for exhaust applications, handling clean or toxic fumes through to smoke spill.

Construction
Galvanised steel cowl.
Impeller blades can be GRP, nylon, aluminium or anti-static to suit the application.
Shutters are fitted as a standard on these units; ensure that the flap hinge points down the slope.

Motors
Type - squirrel cage induction motor.
Electricity supply - 415V, three-phase, 50 Hz.
Bearings - ball.
Motors are selected to suit the application and motors with 2-speed windings can be provided. Motors complying with Ex d, Ex e, Ex n and D.I.P. Standards can be fitted on request. Refer to Fantech for full details.
Speed-controllable using frequency inverters for HC series only.

Internal Thermal Protection
Thermistors can generally be provided on motors used in the HC Series, but cannot be fitted to motors used in the SS Series.

Testing
Air flow testing: -
500-1000mm diameter - BS848:Part 1,1980
1250-1800mm diameter - ISO5801:1997
Noise testing, all sizes to BS848:Part 2, 1985

Special Features
Belt-driven arrangements can be provided in HC Series only.
Should be mounted on horizontal upstands.
Where high winds are experienced we recommend the fitting of Maglok®

Smoke-Spill Applications

The SS Series of smoke-spill fans has been fully tested to meet the air performance and high temperature test requirements of Standards AS/NZS1668.1:1998 and AS4429:1999, both tests are mandatory.

Discharge damper fail-open latching
An additional requirement of the Standards with respect to unsprinklered buildings (300OC @ 30 mins) and relating to the operation of the discharge dampers has also been met. The fail-open discharge damper latches come in two forms; the first being a manual release type requiring manual closing after the fan has been run. The second design, an electro-mechanical type, permits the shutter latch to release and close automatically after the fan stops. Fantech has applied for patents for both designs.
For advice on smoke-spill wiring requirements refer to the above Standards.
Typical Application
For exhaust applications, handling clean or toxic fumes through to smoke spill.
