SUNCORP STADIUM, the scene of many epic rugby union, soccer, rugby league and State of Origin clashes over the years, has begun a new life with a magnificent redevelopment.

 Brisbane sports fans were mightily impressed with the revitalized stadium, long known as Lang Park, when it was officially launched in June.

Fantech supplied all the fans and attenuators for the multi-million dollar re-fit. Kamal Hewa, Senior Sales Engineer for Fantech’s Queensland distributor, Air Design, said that contractor Triple M Mechanical, under direction of Ross Owen, installed Mixvent and Powerline in-line centrifugal fans, Ring Plate axial fans, Compact axial fans, Minitubes and Q-Tech attenuators.

Smoke spill and exhaust systems were provided for the car parks and other areas, while EDM wall-mounted fans supply the corporate boxes with fresh air.

Overall, more than 850 tradesmen worked on the project, one of the features of the 52,000-seater stadium being a seamless roof, reviving its old nickname of “The Cauldron”, ruled by its famous Queensland rugby league hero, “Emperor” Wally Lewis (left).

Construction of the new stadium used:

• 15,000 litres of paint – enough to fill 81 bathtubs.
• 40,000m3 of concrete – enough to fill 20 Olympic swimming pools.
• 10,000m2 of glass – enough to make 9000 house windows.
• 50,000 bricks & 700,000 concrete blocks – Brisbane to Toowoomba and back laid end-to-end.
• 47km of timber battens – a good marathon run, plus.
