Splashing around the bay for Variety

Fantech have again helped make a splash for a great cause.

Held from February 25th to 27th, the 2010 Variety Splash was all about having fun around Port Phillip Bay while raising funds to make a positive difference to the quality of life of special needs children.

Fantech is proud to have been a major sponsor of Laafin, an impressive 30 foot Currawong yacht, with Simon Pollard from Fantech on board.

Simon has worked in quality control at Fantech’s Victorian office for 20 years. He has three grown up children and spends a lot of his leisure time sailing, which Simon says is “exhilarating, relaxing and all comes together with a great sense of teamwork and camaraderie.”

Laafin may have been the smallest boat of the 24 entrants, but it was no shrinking violet – featuring prominently with Mike Larkin on the Channel Ten news.

Skipper Kon Cili and the crew of Kevin Holt, Simon Pollard and Jim McWilliams had to sail from Phillip Island, where the boat is moored, all the way to Docklands to take part in the event, which consisted of a triangular course between Docklands, Sandringham and Geelong.

Money raised went towards minibuses for children’s organisations, Liberty Wheelchair Swings for council playgrounds, specialist communication devices such as Dynavox machines and mobility equipment like wheelchairs and Second Skin Splints.

Simon and the crew of Laafin were excited to be involved in the 2010 Variety Splash. Fantech was proud to climb aboard as a major sponsor of the Variety Splash and congratulates the Laafin team on their enthusiasm and tremendous efforts.
